Assistant Librarian – Digital Resources

We offer a full-time permanent contract as an assistant librarian, with focus on digital resources, for a tech-savvy professional who enjoys working in the digital world as well as in face-to-face interaction with library users.

SALARY – Salary c. £30,000

JOB PURPOSE

The Assistant Librarian – Digital resources performs various support functions related to the electronic resources collections, library online presence, and library technologies and systems.
The role primary responsibilities are to ensure that all library systems and technologies are working correctly, supervise the metadata transfers between library systems and guarantee that subscriptions are integrated and accessible 24/7. The Assistant Librarian – Digital resources will respond to users’ queries regarding their library accounts and access to electronic resources, and they will also be involved on the management of the library website, digital archives, and social media platforms.

The key accountabilities of the post holder will be:

  • Upkeeping the Library Management Software and Discovery layer.
  • Day to day maintenance of security, self-checkout, and authentication systems.
  • Ensure integration and discoverability of electronic resources.
  • Management of electronic resources and print journals subscriptions.
  • Produce, maintain, and update bibliographical records and reports in the library system.
  • Oversee batch modifications and migration of bibliographical records and data.
  • Create and manage user accounts.
  • Assist users with queries around electronic resources and account issues.
  • Work with the Library Coordinator to implement new library services and systems.
  • Work with the Library Coordinator to maintain the library online presence.

ESSENTIAL criteria

  • Experience managing, and implementing, library systems and technologies.
  • Working knowledge of the structure and modules of an Integrated Library Management System.
  • Good working knowledge of metadata formats and schemas.
  • Experience editing, transferring, and updating batches of bibliographical records.
  • Experience managing electronic resources, from subscription to integration in Discovery layer.
  • Good understanding of the interconnection of systems in a modern library.
  • Familiarity with library technology standards and protocols.

DESIRABLE criteria

  • Degree in Library and Information Science.
  • Experience implementing open-source software
  • Experience working in Digital Humanities projects
  • Project management skills
  • Experience working with archive management software and archival metadata formats
  • Understanding of websites and basic coding skills (HTML, CSS)
  • Management of Word Press websites
  • Familiarity working with records in non-roman script (preferably Arabic or Cyrillic)
  • Knowledge of any Middle East, South Asian or Central Asian Language
  • Familiarity working with virtual learning environments
